I always wondered why Sherlock sat there and gave Moriarty his usual chair. It seems a bit off to me. It’s been a little while since I’ve watched it and maybe Moriarty simply chose a chair while Sherlock was up and about… but even still, it seems odd.
Sherlock actually stands in front of the fireplace and points to John’s chair when he invites Moriarty to take a seat, it’s Moriarty that purposefully ignores the direction of Sherlock’s gesture and takes Sherlock’s seat instead. It’s a power play.
I really just love this because John and Sherlock are so domestic that they even have usual chairs.
